Organize with Em
From 2022-2024, I worked as a Professional Home Organizer. I created simple and efficient work and living spaces for my clients. I provided information and support to people and businesses, designing healthy and creative environments. I made systems to make living and working easier.
A miniature zine describing my services. I shared these books at local businesses to find clients.
One of my strengths is envisioning how spaces can be transformed into neat and productive areas. I taught clients how to make decisions and learn about what matters most to them. Letting go of the objects that no longer serve your present self allows people to create space and move forward in life with a clear direction.
As a Cuyahoga County Recycling Ambassador and a Zero Waste advocate, teaching people how to live with less aligned with my values and sustainability goals. We can create a culture that buys less and creates less waste - and I believe that an effective way to do this is to teach people on an individual basis. As a graphic designer and artist, I provided advice on what looks and feels best when recreating spaces.
School storage closet before…
…and after!
We went through every object in every box, and sorted items into the right place.
Each box was neatly labeled so the teacher could find where to put things back.
Client Testimonial:
With Em’s guidance, I became clear about the objects that really served me and reflected my intention.
Not only has my decluttered wardrobe brought peace to my morning routine, but as I consider bringing new garments into my space I am able to employ the clarity and insight gleaned from my session with Em.
They also offered helpful suggestions and perspective for how to avoid overaccumulation in a world rigged towards spending and consuming.
I created more counter space by re-connecting the top portion of this cabinet to the bottom, and moving to another part of the kitchen with an unused wall.
Clients helped clean out food that they were not going to eat, and items were placed in baskets and back on the shelves for easy access.
“Catch-all” surfaces get tidied up on a regular basis
When objects have a “home” to go back to, it’s easy to clean up weekly!
I enjoyed helping clients make storage spaces more organized, and less frustrating to use
“Mystery boxes” - aka, boxes that clients don’t know the contents of, are very common. I was able to help people see inside, sort the contents, and keep only what they needed.
Bins are much less overwhelming when they are consolidated and labeled :)
The homes of Professional Home Organizers also get messy over time! The goal is to rearrange from time to time to get things back in order.
This is the utility drawer in my kitchen. Small tools, pens, pencils, and backup items (staples, command hooks) live in this drawer.
Some of the services I offered:
Finding order within chaos
Organizing objects throughout homes
Taming papers and piles that accumulate on horizontal surfaces
Decluttering objects that are no longer wanted or needed
Giving advice on donation and recycling services
Creating systems so your life can function smoothly
