Haystack Mountain School
I was invited to be a Studio Assistant at Haystack Mountain School by my friend and collaborator, Tikva, in 2023. I had the most amazing time, and learned so much! The class she taught was “Structures for Play: The Print as Building Block”.

I loved all of the printmaking processes Tikva taught, but my very favorite was watercolor monotype. Towards the end of class, I focused more on making these prints. I called them “Sun Prints” because I sat outside in the sun making the plates to print from, and they are saturated with such good memories.

Tikva and I made miniature diplomas for the students. Tikva made the smallest lino-cuts (flower, star, and Haystack logo in blue) and I made watercolor monotype borders and handwrote the text
We had a graduation ceremony and celebrated the students, with views of the Atlantic Ocean in the background. Here’s Tikva giving me my diploma.
In May 2024, I returned to Haystack to be a Technical Assistant, and I was in charge of the Graphics Studio for the Open Studio Residency. 50 artists spent time on campus creating a series of work, and I had time to continue the watercolor monotype series I had started the year before.

I was also fortunate enough to work in some capacity in every studio on campus! The artists in charge of each studio were incredibly generous with their skills and time, allowing me to experiment and create.

Maia Malakoff taught me how to make my first weaving on the loom :)
Lisa Geertsen led a spoon-making demo in the forge. I am so proud of making this spoon, it was a great learning experience!
